Why Climate Control Matters in Montana
Bozeman winters bring extremely low humidity levels. Over time, dry air pulls moisture from organic materials, causing cracking, shrinking, and deterioration.
Traditional heated storage doesn’t solve this problem.
Humidity control does.
-
Bozeman’s winters bring prolonged periods of very low humidity. While that may feel harmless, dry air gradually pulls moisture from organic materials.
Over time, this can cause:
Wood to shrink and crack
Leather to dry and stiffen
Paper documents to become brittle
Rubber to deteriorate
Traditional heated storage does not address this issue, humidity control does.
-
Many facilities advertise climate control, but in most cases, they are only regulating temperature.
Heat alone does not stabilize the environment.
Without humidity regulation, items remain vulnerable to:
Warping
Splitting
Surface damage
Long-term degradation
True climate control manages both temperature and humidity year-round.
-
Fluctuating temperature and dry air can damage internal components in:
Electronics
Power tools
Machinery
Musical instruments
Dry conditions can affect wiring, seals, internal lubrication, and delicate materials.
A stabilized indoor environment reduces the risk of cracking, corrosion, and premature wear.
-
Many of the items people store aren’t replaceable.
Family heirlooms. Important records. Business inventory. Seasonal equipment.
True climate control provides peace of mind knowing your belongings are protected from Montana’s extreme seasonal conditions.
FAQs
What is climate-controlled storage and what items should be stored in it?
Climate-controlled storage maintains stable temperature and humidity levels throughout the year, helping protect your belongings from extreme weather conditions. This is especially important in Montana, where large temperature swings and moisture can cause damage over time.
Items such as wood furniture, electronics, documents, clothing, artwork, antiques, and other sensitive belongings benefit from climate-controlled storage because the consistent environment helps prevent cracking, warping, rust, mold, and deterioration.
Is the facility secure?
Yes. Montana Self Storage is designed with multiple layers of security to help protect your belongings. Our facility is located in a quiet residential area and all units are accessed from inside secure buildings. Each tenant has their own access code for keypad entry, and your personal lock secures your individual unit.
The property also includes a fully fenced perimeter with a locked gate that is accessible only by individual access code, 24/7 motion-activated lighting, and a comprehensive surveillance system with video, sonar, and infrared monitoring throughout the facility.
Why choose indoor storage instead of outdoor units?
Indoor storage provides an added layer of protection compared to traditional outdoor units. Because all units are located inside secure buildings, your belongings are shielded from weather, dust, pests, and temperature fluctuations. Indoor facilities also offer controlled access and a cleaner environment, helping keep your stored items in better condition over time.
For customers storing furniture, valuables, documents, or long-term household items, indoor climate-controlled storage offers greater peace of mind and protection.
